Smart and Skilled Entitlement Full Qualifications

Here at Stirling Institute of Australia, we are proud to be a Smart and Skilled Training Provider. Smart and Skilled is a NSW Government program that helps people get qualifications in in-demand skills and industries. Fee-free training courses are now available for school leavers, young people and job seekers, as part of the NSW Government’s Smart and Skilled Entitlement Full Qualifications initiative. It’s a key part of the NSW vocational education and training system.  


Eligibility criteria

Eligibility criteria for all Smart and Skilled Programs (except Smart and Skilled Entitlement Apprenticeships and Traineeships Program). A person who is eligible to receive subsidised training in all Smart and Skilled Programs (except Smart and Skilled Entitlement Apprenticeships and Traineeships Program) is a person who, at the time of enrolment in a qualification or course on the NSW Skills List or a “short course” with a Smart and Skilled provider:

  • Lives or works in NSW (determined by postcode of the usual place of residence or place of work); or

  • An Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student who does not live or work in NSW but lives in specific defined interstate NSW border areas (see Appendix 2: Defined interstate NSW border areas) is eligible for government-subsidised training under Smart and Skilled; and

  • Is:

    • an Australian citizen; or 

    • a permanent Australian resident; or

    • a New Zealand citizen; or 

    • a humanitarian visa holder or a partner visa holder whose sponsor is a humanitarian visa holder (see Appendix 1: Refugees and asylum seekers for more information); and

    • is aged 15 years or older; and

    • is no longer in secondary education - except for registered home school students (See relevant sections below for further information).

Certificate III in Horticulture (AHC30716)

Program Type - Full Qualification

Duration - 35 Tuition Weeks

Delivery Method - Face-to-Face

Course Outcomes - Entry Level Employment

Standard course fee: $10,400.00 (You could pay: $0.00 to $240.00)

Within the Certificate III in Horticulture you will learn practical skills in areas such as plant identification; propagation, pruning, treatment of weeds, pests and diseases, turf management and much much more. Successful completion of the course will equip you for employment in positions such as gardener, landscape designer, garden designer, horticulturalist or any one of a number of varied roles within the industry. Take your horticultural skills to the next level and learn how to create your own outdoor transformations.

This course is delivered in interactive workshops in the classroom with opportunities to participate in practical field based activities and projects. The classroom-based workshops deliver the theory and strategies to maximise employment opportunities within the horticultural sector. The practical field-based projects allow for the students to practice and apply their new learnt skills and knowledge.

Certificate IV in Ageing Support (CHC43015)

Program Type - Full Qualification

Duration - 35 Tuition Weeks + 120 Hours Work-placement

The Certificate IV in Ageing Support prepares you to care for Australian seniors effectively in residential facilities and their homes, making real change in their lives. This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and / or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

This course is delivered face to face in a classroom environment with a combination of interactive workshops in the classroom with opportunities to participate in practical application of skills and knowledge through, practical industry based simulated training activities and workplace participation.
